There have been quite a few important updates for regional programs such as the Rural Community Immigration Pilots (RCIP) and the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP). Here are some of the highlights:
1. Rural Community Immigration Pilots (RCIP):
The RCIP has now opened for most of the 14 communities who are participating in this program. Each community selects 25 priority occupations each year. Workers who have job offers in the priority occupations from designated employers in the respective community may be able to apply for both permanent residence and a work permit while waiting for the permanent residence to be issued.
2. Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP):
The OINP (Ontario’s Provincial Nominee Program) has announced a number of important changes recently:
- A new Employer Portal has now been implemented that requires all employers to enter their information and submit documentation for employer-based programs through their own portal
- The province can now return applications that have been submitted for nomination based on the government’s changing needs
- Employers can subject to in-person interviews to ensure compliance with program requirements
- Recent draws have targeted those in regions such as Northern Ontario and those in the REDI communities
- There have been modifications in eligibility criteria for certain occupations such as self-employed physicians and early childhood educators
