IRCC has released further details about the new Caregiver program called the “Home Care Worker Immigration Pilots”. Here are the main ones:
1. Program Caps
IRCC has announced that there will be caps of 2350 for the Child Care Stream, 2350 for the Home Support Stream, and 250 for the Out of Status Worker Streams. Once the number of submitted applications have met these caps, the streams will close until next year when the caps are supposed to reset on March 31, 2026.
The program will open at 10 AM ET on March 31, 2025. If you are planning to apply, it’s recommended that you prepare all of the required documentation in advance so that the application can be submitted at the time the program opens.
2. Out of Status Workers in Canada
IRCC has indicated that a limited number of workers who do not have status, have visitor status, or were working unauthorized, can apply for the program under a new public policy. To qualify, Applicants must:
– Be inside Canada when they apply
– Not have authorization to work
– Must have legally entered Canada on or before December 16, 2021 and lived here continuously since then
– Had a work permit at some point since December 16, 2021
– Not have made a refugee claim, or be subject to a removal order
– Not be on a study permit
– Not be inadmissible to Canada for reasons other than overstaying, working or studying without authorization, or having a family member who overstayed
3. Workers In Canada Stream
The work experience and training requirements for the Workers in Canada Stream have also been clarified by IRCC. You can find more details here.
